Life, nonsense and a giveaway.

I work long hours, much longer than most jobs and get less than half the pay that someone in a standard job would. This is my only job, I don't have anything else to fall back on. If I don't make enough money, I will have to stop arting and do something else. This is the cold hard truth of my life as an artist.
On the plus side I love my job, painting makes me happy and I enjoy every day I am working.
Lately though I have been having problems, I have an incredible amount of constant pain in my right hand/wrist/elbow and collar bone. It isn't getting better with resting and I can see many doctors visits ahead of me. I am accepting of the fact that this is due to my long working hours and hope that with time it will ease and become normal again. But everyday I don't paint/write/video something I don't earn anything either.

But that isn't really what this post is about.

I found out that someone has paid to take my (and others) online classes and then re-taught them (maybe not in whole but parts of them) to her own students whilst not even mentioning mine and other artists names as inspirations for this.

I work very hard when I make my classes, it takes a lot of time and energy to come up with the ideas and as I sit here in pain wondering if I am going to heal/earn money anytime soon this person is earning good money from my hard work. I find that a bitter pill to swallow.

The art community as a whole is supportive and caring and I truly love being a huge part of it.
Being inspired by another artist is nothing to be ashamed of and creating works influenced by their's especially after taking a class is expected. When you are first starting out as an artist it is easy to be 'over influenced' by one or more artists and even when you've been painting for some time this can happen. Such is the way with the artworld. I know I have done it at times, nobody is perfect, but it doesn't take long before you figure out that you need to do your own work, step away from too many influences and just be yourself.
To go on and teach the lessons you learnt only a few weeks/months after you took them yourself and teach them in the same way to 'your own students' is not ok, not in the slightest. This is hugely disrespectful to the original artist and hurts them immensely both emotionally and financially.

I am not calling out this person or contacting her, I don't like drama. It would be good if she read this post and learnt from it though.
I don't have any religious beliefs but I do believe in being kind and nice. When you behave in an unkind and disrespectful way life has a funny way of catching up to you to tell you you did wrong. I will leave it to 'Karma' to catch up to her.

New series of paintings

I have always used my sketchbook as an area for an overflow of my imagination and my 15 year old son told me I should do something more with these quirky characters that kept popping up in there. So after some consideration of how to go about bringing these characters to life, a new series was born.

I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do :)

'A Hermit's Compendium Of Imaginary Creatures'

These 3 guys are now available in my etsy shop and there are more to come within the next week or 2, so keep an eye out for them :)

Speeding by

Wowza this year is speeding by already, it's almost Valentines day and I've not got a lot to show for the year so far.
I am working away behind the scenes on my next online class 'Emerge and Evolve' which will hopefully be out sometime during Spring this year. There is lots of filming and lots of the dreaded editing being done. Some changing of minds, writing and re-writing, challenging of my thought process, but all in all I am making progress which is good :)

Life Book and Soul Food are both up and running and going great. There are some awesome classes being taught by the other teachers and I am really looking forward to playing my part in all this during the summer months of this year. You can still sign up at anytime if you haven't already :)

Mindy Lacefield's Wild Surrender is going great too, some absolutely stunning work is being done over there and my lesson for that is being launched around February 15th. Again you can still sign up to that class anytime too.

So as you can see there's not a lot to show for my working and planning but before I go I will leave you with a Valentines special for my etsy shop. If you enter coupon code LOVE14 at the checkout you will receive a 20% discount on anything in the shop, including my online classes :)

Bye bye for now and I hope to be back with something more to show, very soon x x
